Educated by SIM missionaries.

Born into a mixed family of pagans and Muslims. Grandfather 1st convert of SIM mission in Nigeria.

Educated by SIM missionaries to teach in its mission schools.

Admitted into Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria to read for a degree in International Relations. Selected to study for masters degree in International Relations at University of Pittsburgh USA ca. 1966 and PhD at Columbia University, New York, USA, from 1976-1980.

Returned to Nigeria in 1980 and taught at Ahmadu Bello University and University of Jos, Nigeria

Visiting fellow at Harvard University in 1994.

Returned to Nigeria in August 1994 to start the African Centre for Democratic Governance.

Visiting Professor of Political Science at the University of Oklahoma, USA, spring 1998.
